Baruch College’s MakerHub hosted a Halloween party on Oct. 29 with support from Student Life, the Lawrence N. Field Center for Entrepreneurship and the Division of Enrollment Management and Strategic Academic Initiatives. The campus makerspace invited students to design their own candles. In addition to candle painting, the party offered music, food, temporary tattoos and a photo booth.
“Organizing this event has been really great. I love how everyone is here to help me plan: the Field Center, BOSS and many more. They all helped plan this and we came together. The best part about it is seeing everyone have fun,” said Karin Filipova, Program Operations Manager of MakerHub.
MakerHub is part of the Field Center where students visit to learn 3D printing, coding and robotics. MakerHub also offers students the opportunity to build with LEGO bricks, mold Play-Doh or fold origami.
“This is the annual MakerHub and Field Center Halloween party and everyone’s having a great time,” said Marlene Leekang, the executive director of the Field Center.
Last year, the Field Center hosted their Halloween Fair along with MakerHub, the Office of Health and Wellness and the Baruch One Stop Shop.
At the event, students were encouraged to decorate tote bags, create 3D printed keychains, get their face painted in honor of the holiday and much more.
“We are responsible for arranging and setting up tables and also, for my program, Bearcats Fostering Connections, providing the food for this event,” said Evelyn Almonte, Community Engagement Manager at the Office of Student Life.
Mohammed Rafeek, Department Coordinator at the Field Center, also shared his appreciation for the Field Center, “The tattoos were a big hit. I have actually gotten the sleeves three times, twice for that. Definitely would come back again or that.”
“The photo booth was amazing. Great time to dress up with your friends, wear some costumes and take photos,” Rafeek said. “It’s great that you can actually send the photos to yourself and keep the memories.”
Several students in attendance shared their experiencing the Field Center’s event.
“I think the print’s pretty cool since Halloween is coming up and it’s Halloween-themed,” said Harjit Singh, a senior majoring in accounting.
The event offered light refreshments and various foods for attendees. For students at a commuter school such as Baruch, it’s a great addition to have food as students have to run between classes.
Sonia Guillerma, a junior majoring in international business shared, “I really like this event because I feel like it gives students a chance to express themselves and also connect with a lot of other students and peers.”
“I think it gives a nice inclusivity for everyone to gather and do activities that they like.”
