Following a recent Instagram post, actress Anne Hathaway has officially disappeared from the spotlight after joking that she planned to disappear in a “plume of smoke” when her final movie of 2026, “Verity,” premiered.
Hathaway is an American actress and producer best-known for her versatile roles in major film productions.
Over two decades ago, Hathaway made her global debut in the role of Mia Thermopolis in Disney’s “The Princess Diaries.”
After filming the movie at 17 and turning 18 before the global premiere, Hathaway has gone on to showcase her talent in a wide range of characters across different genres.
From playing the role of an aspiring journalist, Andy Sachs, in 2006’s “The Devil Wears Prada” to Catwoman in DC’s 2012 film, “The Dark Knight Rises,” Hathaway has become one of Hollywood’s most recognizable and talented actresses.
Hathaway’s talent has led her to win a Primetime Emmy in 2010 for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance in “The Simpsons” episode, “Once Upon a Time in Springfield,” along with an Oscar in 2013 for Best Supporting Actress in her role as Fantine in the 2012 film “Les Misérables.”
For Hathaway, 2026 has not only been a spotlight-enduring year for her career-wise, with five scheduled movie premieres, “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” “The Odyssey,” “The End of Oak Street,” “Verity” and the musical “Mother Mary,” but personally as well.
On Instagram earlier this year, she revealed her pregnancy and the expected arrival of her third child with her husband, Adam Shulman, in October 2026.
With Hathaway’s final film, pre-hiatus, “Verity,” premiere on Oct. 2, she seemingly has finally be able to plan a break. In her latest press interview for her final movie premiere of this year, “Verity,” with Entertainment Tonight, she told reporters on Oct. 3, “I’m going to vanish in a plume of smoke, and you’re not going to see me until you have to.”
This break that she has decided to take stems from her desire to focus on and take time for herself after a year of premieres, press, commitments and major studio productions.
However, after “Verity” premiered and her break, she is set to return in March 2027, where she will join Tom Cruise on set for the next chapter of “Days of Thunder” in the role of a race car team owner and engineer. Thus, her break is a secured temporary decision, not a permanent decision.
Hathaway has expressed that, at the age of 43, being able to enjoy the experience and prioritize her joy is truly a gift for her.
Fans on social media have responded with nothing but supportive messages describing the workload of 2026 as “exhausting,” particularly while pregnant. Fans praises her for continuing to promote her final project of the year, saying that she “held down the show.”
For now, fans and Hollywood will have to wait for Hathaway return to filming in 2027 and 2028, when the movie that will mark her return to film is set to premiere.
