No Brunson, no problem!

The New York Knicks defeated the second-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers with a score of 107-98 on March 4.

Standout Knicks players of the night were small forward Josh Hart, who had a triple-double (10 points, 19 rebounds, and ten assists), leading scorer shooting guard Donte DiVincenzo, who had 28 points, and bench player small forward Bojan Bogdanovic, who had 20 points.

In the first quarter, not even a minute into the game, Knicks All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson hurt himself when another player collided with his lower leg/knee while going up for a jump shot. He was helped off the court by teammates, leaving it to a nine-man rotation now with only three players coming off the bench.

In February, the Knicks record was 4-12 opposed to the Cavaliers who were 9-13.

The Knicks went on to score 11 unanswered in the first quarter to take the lead over the Cavaliers with four minutes and 40 seconds remaining.

The Knicks were catching fire from three with momentum on their side going into the next quarter, DiVincenzo leading the team with 12 points.

The second quarter started hot with points being scored all around.

With a little over 10 minutes left in the quarter, Knicks role player, shooting guard Miles McBride, crossed up the Cavaliers starting power forward Evan Mobley, putting him on skates that resulted in him dropping to the ground with the McBride layup completion.

At this point in the game, Brunson was still in the locker room and wasn’t back on the bench yet, ruling him out for the rest of the game.

The Cavaliers ended up going on an eleven-to-two run, following up with the repossession of the lead.

The score was 43-40 with five minutes left in the quarter.

As time wound down, Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland hit a clutch three-pointer to end the quarter and gained the lead going into the third quarter. They were rallying from 12 points down to end it.

In the third quarter, the Cavalier’s momentum carried over, keeping the game closer most of the time.

The Knicks had a slow start, but the momentum shifted back to them as they progressed to pull away with a lead of 87-78 to end it.

In the fourth quarter, Hart had hit a triple-double.

There was a questionable foul call on Knicks center Isiah Hartenstein while blocking Cavaliers shooting guard Max Strus. Knicks Head Coach Tom Thibodeau had challenged the fouling call on Hartenstein.

The Knicks won the challenge and they retained their timeout. They led 101-96 with a little over three minutes left.

Hart hit a corner three over Mobley and then shortly after, he hit a dagger three with one minute and forty seconds left.

The Knicks ended up winning the game.

The following day Brunson’s injury, he suffered a knee contusion. A knee contusion timetable is a few days to a few weeks.
