USG Report: Remain resilient by utilizing the Counseling Center

The Counseling Center at Baruch College is now one of the most demanded services by students.

The Counseling Center is a service dedicated to helping students succeed in their academic and personal goals.

It is commonly misunderstood that the Counseling Center’s services are limited to a specific group of people but, in reality, any student who may be emotionally distressed can make an appointment and or contact the center directly via their email, counseling@baruch.cuny.edu.

Undergraduate Student Government Vice President of Student Affairs Yam-Yu Li has kept communication with the office to receive updates and communicate students’ needs to the office.

During USG’s most recent Senate meeting, it was brought up that weekly support sessions and individual therapy sessions have both been actively available throughout the semester and the attendance has been high, with appointment slots that often fill quickly.

For students who are patiently waiting for slots, the Counseling Center has also been in negotiations with an outside vendor called TalkSpace, which provides therapy services through texting, to which details are still in the works.

In terms of events, the Counseling Center has been targeting outreach and hosting events for a wide range of students.

When it comes to counseling, it can be difficult to open up to another individual for support. However, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic counseling services have been a resource more valuable than ever before.

For many students, the sudden changes of the current time may have restructured their initial blueprint to achieving their personal, academic or career goals.

There may be times when thoughts of despair and disappointment may come into place, but it would not make any situation better if these negative thoughts and emotions persist.

Resources are laid on the table and the Counseling Center is one of them that may help you move forward to achieve a better future.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Counseling Center when you feel you need to. Just like any other service at Baruch, like the Student Academic Consulting Center and the Writing Center, it is a resource that is available for you.
