Celebrity singer Sabrina Carpenter, known for hit songs like “Espresso” and “Please Please Please,” won her first-ever Emmy following her involvement in the Disney+ special of Jim Henson’s “The Muppet Show” that originally aired from 1971 to 1981.
“So incredibly proud of the whole muppets crew on our Emmy wins. A lot of love and happiness and hard work and diva fights went into making this special,” Carpenter said. The award delighted the singer, who later posted on her Instagram story and wrote, “Thank you, Televisioncad.”
The Emmy Awards hold prestigious recognition of excellence and achievement in the television industry, representing the highest possible honor within the peer-reviewed television scene.
With the accomplishment, marks the singer’s halfway point to claiming EGOT status.
Carpenter’s Emmy award was noted in the category of Outstanding Variety Special, on top of her being a musical guest for the song “Manchild” and a rendition of “Island of the Streams” with Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.
Audience members showered Carpenter with applause for reaching this milestone, while fans praised the singer’s growth since her TV debut on Disney Channel in the early 2010s and her first album release, “Eyes Wide Open,” in 2015.
Despite previous album releases, Carpenter’s music career had not truly taken off until the “Man’s Best Friend,” obtained even more success as she debuted No. 1 on Billboard 200 for a second time. The album celebrated Carpenter’s major accomplishment of 52 weeks on the Billboard charts, reaching No. 46 to 48.
Fellow musician Bad Bunny also secured his first Emmy awards for his role as a producer and performer, bringing the singer one step closer to earning an EGOT.
Carpenter and Bad Bunny have yet to win an Oscar, an essential award in completing the quartered EGOT requirement of an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. However, Bad Bunny has announced that he will be stepping into the lead role in the drama “Porto Rico,” based on the life of Puerto Rican revolutionary José Maldonado Román, which could significantly increase his chances.
With Carpenter’s experience on Broadway, acting and within the music industry, the future of the treasured singer bearing the label of an EGOT winner is also highly anticipated.
