If you had told me freshman year that I would have the great opportunity to take part in something that would change my life in every single way, I would have laughed in your face.
But during my time at The Ticker, I made lifelong friendships and developed skills that will serve me not only in post-grad but also in life.
I joined The Ticker in 2023 with the goal of contributing occasionally to slowly build a portfolio, but I never expected it to become something I care so deeply about. What started as writing every other week for the former sports editor quickly became moving up to staff writer, getting the opportunity to co-host the Bearcat Den and eventually becoming sports editor and Bearcat Den host and director.
While I was initially hesitant to take on both roles because of the workload, every bit of stress and tears was all worth it. I left with stronger sports knowledge, stronger time management and a better version of myself. The amazing team at The Ticker had made it a smooth transition, turning something that can be so overwhelming into a place that feels like a second home, filling the room with laughter and conversations about the most random things. These people shaped me.
As this ball game comes to a close, I wish the best of luck to the people remaining in The Ticker: Zoe Del Percio-Evans, Karizma Jernigan and Reagan Rawner. I believe in all of you and know you will do fantastic things, but that doesn’t make this goodbye any easier. Thank you for being there for me when I was at my lowest and for all the good advice.
Thank you for being an ear when I need to rant about sports, layout troubles and everything else. You will all hold a special place in my heart.
To my successors, I wish you nothing but the best. I know you both will do great in your roles and continue to grow into them.
