The New York Mets had many fans hopeful for this year’s season after the moves that were made during the offseason and left the 2026 Mets looking completely different.
So far, the Mets are currently tied with the Philadelphia Phillies for last place in the National League East standings, with a record of 10-19.
The Mets are facing multiple injuries from star players like Juan Soto, who recently returned, and Fransico Lindor, who faced problems with a calf strain.
Starting pitcher Kodai Senga, who is placed on the injured list after his last start on April 26 due to lumbar spine inflammation, and Jorge Polanco, who is out for a right wrist contusion. Many key players are still injured.
In April, the Mets ended a 12-game losing streak after a win against the Minnesota Twins, the longest streak since 2002.
While the Mets won two games after the losing streak, it did not last long since they were soon swept by the Colorado Rockies. But after an off day, the Mets finally looked like the team that was promised during the offseason by having a shutout win against the Washington Nationals, 8-0, showing the team’s potential seen on opening day.
The Mets’ early season start has not been this bad since 1983, when they went 68-94 that season. The team’s overall batting average is 0.226 and on-base percentage is 0.288, with the team needing to produce more runs.
If the team continues to struggle, their chances of making it to the playoffs are 41.3%. While the team has the potential to have a remarkable turnaround if they continue to produce despite the offenses, the recent firing of managers raises the question of whether the Mets are planning to fire current manager Carlos Mendoza.
During a recent post-game interview asking Mendoza if he was worried about his status with the Mets, he replied, “The only thing I’m worried about here is I’ve got to get the guys going,” meaning that his job is to get the Mets out of the funk they are in.
Even though it is early in the season with a lineup that is constantly changing, if the Mets continue to produce as they have done recently, win more than one series this season and break their three-game losing streak, their season can turn around for the better with a newfound spark.
