Welcome to In Tune with WBMB, a weekly column where a member of the station covers a new track from the underground. This week’s article is written by Adalis Garcia.
In this day and age, will there ever be enough electropop and hyperpop? The two subgenres are making a comeback.
Ellisar Hamdan, also known as Ellisar, is a Dallas-born Lebanese artist known for her singles “DO IT AGAIN” and “CRASH OUT.”
The artist recently released her newest single, “NOT ENOUGH.”
Ellisar said she makes electronic pop music for “the girls and gays.”
Ellisar said that making music comes from deeply personal experiences. Her writing process involves releasing the emotions she’s going through, describing it as a heightened version of herself capable of exploring her feelings.
Ellisar creates a character when creating music; being that character for the moment is her rawest form.
“NOT ENOUGH” explores Ellisar’s desire for another shot, comparing herself to a loaded gun throughout the song.
The song centers on hedonism, showing her excessive desire for more. Whether it’s alcohol, clothes or jewelry, it’s not enough.
She sings about a “fast car and a brand-new watch,” but it’s not enough as she also brings up her flaws, talking about it with a cocky attitude: “stuck on the floor ‘cause I like a heavy pour / yeah, you like to call it messy, but I call it couture.”
Ellisar owns her messy party girl lifestyle and her music is a way to rebel. In interviews, she said she wants her listeners to see her music as an escape and for them to fully immerse themselves.
Because Ellisar’s musical style is very electropop style, her musical influences include Ariana Grande’s harmonization, Stromae’s way of putting his feelings into his music and Tove Lo’s rawness in her music.
Ellisar’s music is an external connection to herself as a musical persona and source of confidence. It’s bold and screams “you are who you want to be.”
Most of her musical delivery is her being unapologetically herself. When listening to music like that, who doesn’t want to be apologetic themselves too?
