Food for Thought is leaving Manhattan and heading into Jackson Heights, Queens, where a local spot has quietly become a community favorite.
Located at 71-32 Roosevelt Ave., Cafe Catmandoo is a cozy café and bistro that has been open for only two years, but it has already built a loyal following for good reason.
As soon as customers step inside, they are greeted by a warmly lit, dim interior that feels calming and inviting. The walls are decorated with beautiful artwork of well-known figures, ranging from The Beatles to the 14th Dalai Lama, giving the space a unique personality and charm. It feels less like a café and more like a neighborhood gathering spot, somewhere you can sit, relax and slow down for a while.
Cafe Catmandoo has become a beloved local gem, and it’s easy to see why. With friendly, attentive service and thoughtfully crafted food and drinks, it offers the kind of personal touch that’s hard to find at larger chain cafés. The staff is always welcoming to each customer, which makes coming back feel even more enjoyable.
The menu offers a wide variety of options, blending café favorites with dishes inspired by Himalayan flavors. From items like Himalayan chow mein to classic New York food like a bacon, egg and cheese, there’s something for everyone.
The Iced Chocolate Cream Mocha comes out to $8.71 after tax. The drink is a rich, smooth and refreshing balance of coffee and chocolate. While it may seem a little pricey, the quality makes it worth it.
Its House Complete Breakfast comes with eggs, salad, home fries, fruit, jam and bread. It’s a generous, filling plate that makes for a perfect brunch option. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick coffee or sitting down for a full meal, Cafe Catmandoo delivers consistency and quality every time.
While it may not be close to Baruch College’s campus, sometimes the best places are the ones tucked away close to home, and Cafe Catmandoo is exactly that.
Before signing off, I want to say that “Food for Thought” has been a great journey this school year. Writing honest reviews was definitely a challenge at times, but it was also a lot of fun.
Whenever I needed a break from the stress of everyday life, stepping away to write about food always gave me something to look forward to.
This became something I genuinely enjoyed doing and it’s something I hope to continue in the future with my own food blog one day. Exploring new places, supporting local businesses and sharing those experiences with others made this column feel meaningful to me.
If you’ve read even just one of these articles, I’m truly grateful. I don’t always know how many people actually read them, but I hope that somewhere along the way, I convinced at least a few of you to try one of the spots I reviewed, or maybe even step outside your comfort zone and try something new.
Thank you for following along and for reading.
