Jasmin Christian, better known as The Crochet Ginger to her over one million TikTok followers, is a 19-year-old from Clovis, Calif. with a huge passion for crocheting. Her latest creation is a 7-foot-tall, 7-foot-wide plushie of the well-known streamer CaseOh.
Crochet has recently become a major trend on social media with many large communities of crocheters sharing their content and process online. Christian was inspired by these very videos.
“My teacher gave us this passion project, and we got to learn anything we wanted to learn,” Christian told Fox26News. “I chose crochet because I saw really cute plushies online and I fell in love with it.”
Christian started crocheting as part of a class assignment but eventually worked her way into her niche, making amigurumi plushies. Amigurumi is the Japanese art of creating small, crocheted or knitted, stuffed yarn animals or other creatures. It has been a popular form of crochet and something that Christian fell in love with.
Christian designed the pattern for the CaseOh plushie and its larger versions from scratch.
“I released a video of me just holding a CaseOh plushie, which was the first time me showing off the pattern that I wrote for it, and people fell in love with it. It went viral,” Christian said. “So, I decided to do a jumbo CaseOh series so that I could get his attention and I did.”
Christian first created jumbo CaseOh plushies which she sent to both the streamer and his mother.
“Oh my goodness, it’s bigger than me,” CaseOh said in reaction to the plushie of his likeness in a stream that Christian reacted to where he opened a package of multiple CaseOh plushies from her. “Look at the booty action,” he said, referring to the exaggerated buttocks on the plushie.
This viral moment of CaseOh receiving Christian’s creation then caught the attention of the developers and CEO behind “Waterpark Simulator,” a game promoted by CaseOh during his streams. The company commissioned Christian to create a life-size version as a thank-you gift to the streamer.
Christian documented her progress to her followers on creating the 7-foot plushie over the course of a few months, totaling 130 hours of work throughout that time.
“It doesn’t fit through a normal doorway,” Christian said. “So, let’s just cross our fingers and hope that the shipping process goes well.”
On Feb. 25, CaseOh opened the package live while on stream. He was very shocked at the sheer size of the seven-foot-tall and 130-pound project.
“Lord have mercy, look at the head on him!” CaseOh said when he unveiled the plushie. He emphasized the incredible attention to detail by pointing out the logo on the headphones of the plushie. As well as the exaggerated back of the plushie. “It’s just straight buttcrack back here, dude,” he said.
Christian hasn’t stopped at viral fame. She is currently in the process of applying to Guinness World Records, hoping to both create and earn the title for the largest crocheted plushie.
