Andre 3000 breaks records with new album

Since the release of his new instrumental LP “New Blue Sun Epic,” the former OutKast member is soaking in the positive feedback that the album is generating. The project’s debut is not a month old and is already seeing record breaking results.

Andre 3000’s 12 minute long track broke the record for longest Hot 100 of all time.

The track surpassed Tool’s “Fear Inoculum,” which held the previous record for longest track at 10 minutes and  21 seconds. It debuted on the billboard chart at #93 back in 2019. The third longest track to achieve this record is Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version),” which debuted at No.1 in Nov. 2021.

Andre 3000’s lengthy track titled “I  swear, I Really Wanted To Make a ‘Rap’ Album But  This is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time” charted at #90 on the Billboard Hot 100 list.

The rapper spoke with NPR about his recent work and his mindset when it came to ditching lyrics for a purely instrumental tone. Andre 3000 told the publication that there was a liberating feeling  about the creative move.

“It’s funny. Like, some things, like, in society, you can’t say out loud, especially now. You know, everybody’s just kind of, like, really sensitive about things, but you can say them with an instrument.” Andre 3000 said.

Andre 3000 released his eight-track project 17 years after “Idlewild.” At the time of its release,  “Idlewild” was long thought to be the final album from OutKast.

The Atlanta-based rapper is no stranger to having his music placed on the billboard charts. During his tenure with OutKast, the hip hop duo scored 19 Hot 100 hits between 1994-2007. Three out of the 19 made it to No. 1 including “Ms. Jackson,” which lasted for a week in 2001; The Iconic  hit “Hey Ya!” lasted for nine weeks at No. 1 between 2003-2004 and “The Way You Move” featuring Sleepy Brown  lasted for one week in 2004.

During his solo career, Andre 3000 managed to score his seventh  solo Hot  100 entry  having previously reached No. 24 on the chart in 2008 as a feature on John Legend’s “Green Light”

Andre 3000 also told NPR about his desire to make a rap album. He said the opportunity is still open in his mind.

“In my mind, I really would like to make a rap album,” the 48 year old rapper said. “So, maybe that happens one day, but I got to find a way to say what I want to say in an interesting way that’s appealing to me at this age.”

Despite the lack of lyrical bars on his LP, hip hop figures, including Snoop Dogg, have reportedly requested usage for the music, according to Complex.

Great effort, I at least expected him to display vocals of some sort, rather spoken or a small amount of rap here or there. It’s more like a sleep relaxation record to me honestly, and it’s a little hard for me to listen to the entire record straight though, I find myself skipping through it honestly, it kinda gets redundant.

Don’t allow for your instrumental to be highjacked by the words of any artist. Maintain its authenticity of intimate, individualized, and customized interpretation of its listeners. Once you permit other artists to utilize what GOD gave you, it’s now diluted. Money doesn’t make you, you make money. You were born an original, Andre, don’t die a copy. Love you bruh. -Anthony A. This new album is the most liberating album since the song liberation. That he, Erica Budu, and Ceelo Green produced back in the day. It sparks an futuristic, sophisticated, and thought provoking, platform atmosphere in every room. It’s zen level craftsmanship fans the flame of freedom for him and all his true. In which I will always be included. Congratulations Andre you have successfully taking us to the year of 3000. And that’s . Keep coming in which ever way the wind blows you we’ll be waiting!

I’m from the South and I’m proud of everything that Andre 3000 does. OutKast is one of the most important groups in Hip Hop history. I’ve been to Neighborhoods all over this country, and I have heard and seen Tupac Albums and OutKast Albums, but no Eminem anywhere, see if you want to be the greatest, you have to have the love and support of all people, not just your own race. I travel every once in awhile and when you go to other countries they know who Tupac is, but not any other rapper, they don’t know who Eminem is or Jay Z. People in America don’t understand this, that’s how I knew how great and Legendary Tupac is. Salute to Andre 3000 OutKast forever, keep reppin the South.
