Manchester City won 3-0 to Liverpool on Oct. 11, after playing against 10 men for most of the second half of the game, despite the hostile atmosphere. Manchester City players were welcomed at Anfield, with Liverpool fans holding signs regarding the 114 charges Manchester City were found guilty of.
The teams went to the locker rooms at halftime with a score of 0-0, both having very competitive spirits and challenging each other, generating chances but not finishing them.
In the 62nd minute, Ryan Gravenberch was sent off after receiving his second yellow card. Two minutes later, Erling Haaland opened the scoring, putting the Citizens up by one goal, scoring his sixth goal in six appearances in the Premier League with Manchester City this season.
Three minutes later, Jeremy Doku, with an assist from Elliot Anderson, scored the second goal
that put the Citizens with an advantage of two goals over Liverpool. In the 77th minute, Rayan Cherki scored the third goal to seal their victory over Liverpool.
With the final score being 3-0, Manchester City kept themselves at the top of the Premier League, with a three-point lead over Arsenal. The Citizens also keep a perfect league start with six victories in six games. With the loss, Liverpool goes from seventh to ninth place with two wins, three draws and one loss.
Following the victory over Liverpool, Manchester City’s manager Enzo Maresca was interviewed by Sky Sports after the 3-0 win at Anfield. Maresca was asked about the noise and the hostile atmosphere during the game; he said that as a team, Manchester City will have to learn to deal with the noise and that they should make their own noise.
“Our noise is to win games,” Maresca said, who told Sky Sports that at the end of the game it was just the fans’ noise following the 3-0 victory.
Anderson and Haaland also reacted to their win against Liverpool. Both players emphasized that the team displayed togetherness, courage and a fighting spirit to secure the three points.
Haaland also highlighted the mental battle of the first game after coming back from international break. “It’s never easy to come back for the first game when we’ve been away for over two weeks,” Haaland said.
He also expressed pride over the performance of the team and the win at Anfield.
To close the interview, Haaland gave the Man of the Match to his teammate Anderson.
