With just about 20 games left in the MLB season, teams and fans are starting to look forward to the postseason. The question is, which fans have the best chance of watching their team win the World Series?
Starting in the American League, there’s not much to look at in terms of teams that can take down some of the giants in the National League, but some do have a fair chance. In the AL, it’s all about the AL East. The three teams that look the most wellbuilt to win are the Tampa Bay Rays, New York Yankees and Red Sox.
Starting with Boston, no one could have imagined that they would be in talks of potential world series contenders, but here they are from one of the worst teams in the league to holding down the second wild card spot and fighting for the first.
This Red Sox team is also getting healthy at the right time, with players like Roman Anthony and Trevor Story coming back to boost a lineup that has been great ever since they started their winning streak in July.
The Yankees have been having a very average season as a whole. It’s been a tough up and down year as they have also dealt with injuries, the biggest being Aaron Judge who was out from late May till early Sept. The Yankees will need their captain’s bat if they want to make a world series run.
The Rays, who have the best record in the AL for the 2026 season with Junior Caminero leading the charge, are in a great position. The one thing that these three teams have in common is amazing pitching and that’s what wins you postseason games.
In the NL, the Los Angeles Dodgers are still the team to beat, but this year the Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies are looking like strong contenders.
The Cubs look amazing, with Pete Crow Armstrong looking like everything that was promised, but most importantly the Cubs upgraded their pitching by the trade deadline and that’s what could propel them in a series with LA. The Phillies had a similar start to the Red Sox, but they have been all gas since.
With an All-Star studded line up and good pitching they can for sure take it to the Dodgers.
This postseason is looking strong, and while there can always be surprises, the listed teams have all the tools to battle it out and compete for the top prize in baseball.
