As the New York City mayoral election date of Nov. 4 approaches, CUNY announced on Oct. 21 that its 14 campuses would set up polling sites to serve both early and regular voters.

In the lead-up to the election, voters can choose to vote early if they wish by going to a host of polling sites the city has set up from Oct. 25 until Nov. 2. There will be a break on Nov. 3 before regular voting takes place on Nov. 4.
CUNY has set up voting sites on 10 of its campuses for early voting in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens.
A student is eligible to vote if they are a citizen, a NYC resident for at least 30 days, at least 18 years old, not in prison for a felony conviction and have not claimed the right to vote outside NYC. Students must also be registered to vote by the Oct. 25 deadline.
Six CUNY campuses in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Manhattan will also host voting sites on Election Day. These sites include Hostos Community College, Brooklyn College, Medgar Evers College, Baruch College, Hunter College and the CUNY Graduate Center.
Students can use the New York City Board of Elections’ Find My Poll Site to locate the closest CUNY campus voting site.
CUNY has supported a mission of civic responsibility with its CUNY Votes program, a non-partisan initiative aiming to increase student voter awareness, registration and turnout through campaigns such as the University’s early voting program.

Chancellor Félix Matos Rodríguez expressed the sentiment while discussing CUNY voting sites. “Selecting who will lead our city as mayor is a big decision, and CUNY is proud to lean into its role as the city’s public university to help New Yorkers participate in the civic process and motivate our community to be engaged members of society,” he said.

In addition to hosting voting sites, LaGuardia Community College hosted the second and final mayoral debate on Oct. 22.
The debate was co-sponsored by John Jay College and the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism. It further reaffirmed CUNY’s commitment to democratic values as the electoral process continues.
