The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, the biggest rivals in baseball, returned to Fenway Park in Boston. The Red Sox have dominated the Yankees this season as they were coming into this game 8-3 against the Yankees.
The pitching matchups for this game were great, as it was Yankee ace Max Fried who has been great this year with 17 wins while posting a 3.03 Earned Run Average. For the Red Sox it was Brayan Bello, who has stepped up with 11 wins and a 3.25 ERA.
Bello has been a killer for the Yankees in his short career, having a sub-2 ERA before this start, where it didn’t go as well as he would’ve hoped.
The Yankees wasted no time getting to Bello as they loaded the bases. In the first inning, Cody Bellinger brought home the Yankees first run with a sacrifice fly.
After that, Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a single to bring in the second run of the inning for the Yankees.
Later on in the third inning, it was another Chisholm single that got the third run home for the Yankees.
In the top half of the fifth, the Chisholm show continued as he hit a home run off Bello to bring in the fourth run for the Yankees and his third RBI of the day.
The Red Sox were getting to Fried with hits, but this Red Sox team has had problems with hitting with runners in scoring position, and in this game, it was no different.
The Red Sox would show some life with an Alex Bregman home run. Catcher Connor Wong would get an RBI, or Runs Batted In, single in the bottom half of the sixth and Jarren Duran would hit a pinch hit home run in the eighth.
That would be it for the Red Sox offense, as Bellinger doubled off Aroldis Chapman, as the Yankees beat the Red Sox 5-3, winning their first series against them this season. With the postseason being right around the corner and these two teams fighting for their spot in the playoffs, this series was crucial.
The Yankees are still deep in the fight for the division with the Blue Jays, and with a soft schedule to finish off the year, it is very much in their hands.
As for the Red Sox, the loss of rookie Roman Anthony has been a present glare for this offense, but with a tough schedule to end off their year, they need to keep their head on if they want to make it to October.
