Majority of spring courses to be in-person

The majority of spring classes will be in-person, with some of the remaining courses being hybrid and less being fully online, according to CUNY, as part of the university’s attempts to transition back into fully in-person learning.

“For the Spring 2022 semester, the vast majority of CUNY courses will be in-person,” CUNY’s Academic Year 202122 Safety Guidance webpage reads. “Students taking in-person or hybrid courses must be fully vaccinated when classes begin, meaning unvaccinated students will be withdrawn before classes begin if they do not meet the below guidelines and deadlines.”

Just like with the fall 2021 semester, all students entering their campus, at any point for any reason, must be fully vaccinated before doing so. Additionally, it is not enough to just be fully vaccinated — students must upload proof of vaccination to CUNYfirst.

Students who have already uploaded proof of vaccination during or before the fall semester are not obligated to upload it again for the spring semester.

The deadline for students to upload their proof is Dec. 20 for the winter session and Jan. 18, 2022 for the spring semester.

CUNY also included other helpful dates for students to keep track of their vaccination options.

For the winter semester, the deadline to get the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine is Dec. 20. The deadline to get the first shot of the Pfizer vaccine was Nov. 29 and the deadline to get the first shot of the Moderna vaccine was Nov. 22.

For the spring semester, the deadline to get the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine is Jan. 14, 2022. The deadline to get the first shot of the Pfizer vaccine is Dec. 24 and e for Moderna it is Dec. 17.

If proof of full vaccination is not uploaded on these respective dates for the winter and spring semesters, stated above, students may be dropped from their in-person or hybrid classes, or may be retained in the class but denied access to campus and therefore the classroom.

Students will be  dropped from the roughly 65% of in-person courses due to non-compliance with the CUNY-wide vaccine mandate beginning  Jan. 2, 2022 for the winter session and Jan. 27, 2022 for the spring semester.

If a medical or religious exemption from the mandate is required, an application for exemption must be submitted at least 30 days before the first day of classes.

While there is a vaccine mandate for all of CUNY, testing has still continued at campuses across the five boroughs, as has the university’s reporting of positive test results.

In the week-long period of Nov. 15 through Nov. 21, there were two positive test results at Baruch College out of 271 tested, and four overall in CUNY out of 2,569 people tested.

In total since the first day of classes on Aug. 25, there have been 20 positive test results at Baruch out of 7,333 people tested, and 174 positive test results out of 76,273 tested across all of CUNY.
