Welcome to In Tune with WBMB, a weekly column where a member of the station covers a new track from the underground. This week’s article is written by Alex Fernandez.
For this week’s In Tune, WBMB has decided to highlight Baruch College’s very own Kemuel Cuffy, who students may better recognize as Kemmii.
Kemmii is a Caribbean-American singer, songwriter and producer, with a wide range of talents who has returned to make waves with his new track “MICHELIN.”
From experience in singing, production, percussion and dance, Kemmii has been honing his talent for years now. Kemmii dropped his debut album, “Love Cycles,” in 2021, showing a sensual, bold take on R&B and pop.
Kemmii has continued to produce music year after year, with 2025 being a particularly busy year for the artist. Not only did he drop his lauded EP “BQFRMBK (Butch Queen from Brooklyn)” last year, alongside a conceptual short film accompanying the EP. He also performed as an opener at WBMB’s annual Spring Fling alongside fellow Baruch student DJ WM and headliner Cash Cobain.
“MICHELIN” was born from a state of yearning and desire, from longing without bounds,” Kemmii told The Ticker.
“MICHELIN” is the beginning of a series of tracks that will be released by Kemmii this year.
The track is a four-minute journey about the need for Michelin Star relationships and the desire for a relationship with pure love.
“MICHELIN” begins with a shimmering, synth-filled intro, with the catchy chorus expressing the themes of the track with lines like “And I would Michelin my life / if every dish of me fulfilled your appetite.”
As the song builds, Kemmii flows effortlessly from singing to rapping, with a cool mix of the lighter voiced harmonies that flood the chorus into a deeper, rougher flow.
The song is smooth, sultry and intimate. Kemmii’s vocal harmonies transcend to an angelic sound towards the end of the track, as the repetition of the chorus bleeds into the synths, closing it out with a dreamy feeling—hopefully turning that desire with one’s partner into a reality.
If love is in the air, spin “MICHELIN.” The track is gorgeous and can be replayed endlessly. Kemmii had a performance at indie venue Brooklyn Music Kitchen, so be sure to keep up to date with him on his Instagram, @iamkemmii.
Baruch has a large variety of talented musicians. Keep up with WBMB on Instagram for the next musician highlight!
