Arsenal F.C. have been outstanding the past couple of games since their 2-1 away defeat to Aston Villa F.C., making this their second loss in the Premier League since their defeat to Liverpool F.C. in August 2025. Arsenal is the team that has fans and rivals talking.
Over the past few weeks, Arsenal has faced an injury crisis, with many star players being replaced with new signings. This time, however, the Gunners were prepared for a crisis like this and are taking it seriously in hopes of lifting the Premier League trophy and many more silverwares.
As of Jan. 18, on Matchday 22, the Gunners are at the top of the table, leading with 50 points, while the second and third place teams, Manchester City F.C. and Aston Villa, have 43 points.
Leaving a seven-point gap between the teams, it is still anyone’s game as we have many games left in the season.
On Jan. 17, Arsenal faced issues with Nottingham Forest F.C. away as they drew 0-0, as both teams played defensively this match. While Nottingham Forest goalkeeper and defense stopped Arsenal from having any chances to take the lead, there was a key moment during this play that had Arsenal supporters upset. A penalty should have been awarded to the Gunners due to a handball from a Nottingham Forest.
While it was not exactly full hand contact, the defender used his shoulder to roll the ball to his arm to keep it in play to prevent Arsenal from receiving a corner.
Using the video assistant referee, it was decided that a penalty would not be awarded and it would be a corner kick.
In the end, Arsenal left the game with a point, disappointed with a game changing decision that could have allowed the Gunners to stretch the gap between Manchester City and Aston Villa.
Manchester City have suffered a surprising defeat to rivals Manchester United in the Manchester derby. United had recently sacked their manager Ruben Amorim at the start of the new year after receiving a draw against Leeds United. From there, a temporary manager was set for Manchester United by the name of Michael Carrick.
This derby proved to be important for Carrick and United, deciding the future for the club.
The Red Devils have been the talk of the week after delivering an outstanding performance and showcasing play styles that had opponents twisting their heads.
The Red Devils defeated the Citizens 2-0, securing victory and walking away with all three points.
Cheers and smiles were heard from the supporters, and present in the crowd was former beloved manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The crowds chanted, “Manchester is red,” helping Arsenal stay comfortably at the top of the table.
Aston Villa faced Everton and lost 1-0, stretching the gap between themselves and Arsenal.
This could be the year the Gunners lift the Premier League, as they seem to be unstoppable.
