The New England Patriots have been on a tear this year, and it was all led by quarterback Drake Maye, who is top three in Most Valuable Player voting and on some polls at number one.
From his promising rookie year, he took his skills to the next level this season. Maye came into this game against a division rival, the Jets. This was their first meeting of the season, and the Patriots expected to take the lead early and hold on for the rest of the game.
The Patriots came into this game expecting an easy win, as the Jets recently traded star cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Colts, as well as star defensive lineman Quinnen Williams to the Cowboys.
Maye had an easy start to the game, completing his first 11 passes, which was a career best for him.
TreVeyon Henderson stole the show during the game, scoring three touchdowns and getting hot after running back Rhamondre Stevenson got injured during the Patriots’ clash with the Browns during week eight.
The Patriots defense played alright for their standards, allowing only 14 points and a little over 200 total yards.
Maye is putting up an MVP season this year, as his play is currently leading the Patriots to wins. He is leading the league in passing yards and has a career high completion percentage, even when his offensive line is second in the league in sacks allowed with 35.
After a rough couple of years with a large range of quarterbacks taking the helm for the Patriots, as well as firing long-time coach and six-time Super Bowl winner Bill Belichick, they were looking to find their next Tom Brady, who left in 2020.
They have found their coach for the foreseeable future in former Patriots player Mike Vrabel, who brings grit and a personal connection to the players.
The Patriots are looking to capture their next Super Bowl win. The last time they won was in 2019 against the Los Angeles Rams.
A Super Bowl win would reignite a once vibrant dynasty that has gone dormant over the last half-decade. The Patriots have now rattled off eight straight wins, and the first of these without Brady.
Brady did it seven times and has reached the Super Bowl in four out of those seven seasons.
Maye will try and get them back to the place Brady led this franchise six times. But first, he has the Bengals on his schedule next week, where they look to keep their run going.
