Game 1 of the World Series, which was on Oct. 24, started off hot. The Los Angeles Dodgers wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the second when Enrique Hernandez singled to center, bringing in Teoscar Hernandez for the first run of the night. But the Dodgers didn’t stop there — they made the game 2-0 when Will Smith singled to right, batting a runner in. Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell was able to keep his team in the lead until the bottom of the fourth when Blue Jays Daulton Varsho hit a two-run home run, tying the game.
The Blue Jays’ bats got hot in the bottom of the sixth. Snell was removed from the mound with the bases loaded and no outs. Ernie Clement hit a single, bringing in a run to make the game 3-2, while the bases remained loaded. Nathan Lukes was hit by a pitch, a run scored and the Blue Jay offense showed no signs of stopping with no outs. Addison Barger later hit a grand slam, making the game 9-2. The Blue Jays continued with their hot bats when Alejandro Kirk hit a two-run home run, bringing the score to 11-2.
The Dodgers finally answered at the top of the seventh when Shohei Ohtani hit a two-run home run, which was the last of the Dodgers’ offense. The game ended 11-4, resulting in a Blue Jays win.
During Game 2 on Oct. 25, Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman kept the Dodgers scoreless while on the mound, but it didn’t last long. Smith soon singled to center, causing Freddie Freeman to be the first run of the night. Blue Jays pitcher Gausman and Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto kept this game at 1–0 until the bottom of the third when the Blue Jays’ Kirk hit a sacrifice fly to center field bringing in to score George Spring, making the game 1-1.
The game remained tied until the top of the seventh when Smith homered to left field and Max Muncy hit back-to-back home runs, making the game 3-1. The Blue Jays’ bats couldn’t perform for the remainder of the game, while the Dodgers added two more runs at the top of the eighth, making the game 5-1, resulting in a Dodgers win.
Yamamoto pitched all nine innings, becoming the first Pitcher to go back-to-back complete games in the postseason since 2001. They will be heading back to Los Angeles tied for Game 3 of the World Series on Oct. 27.
