The season for Major League Soccer is coming to an end. On the Eastern Conference side, most teams have already secured their playoff spots, including Supporters’ Shield award winners Philadelphia Union, FC Cincinnati, Inter Miami CF, Charlotte FC and New York City FC.
It would be fascinating for them to end the season with a banger. The remaining four teams are trying to secure their playoff spot as they fight for the top seven in the table, since eighth place and ninth place will have to face each other to decide who advances to the tournament.
Over at the Western Conference side, it’s a bit interesting: six teams are fighting for a playoff spot, as sixth place through 11th place are not far from each other in points and goal difference.
This will all have been decided on decision day on Oct. 18, as every team in the MLS will play their final game and determine how the tournament will play in their favor.
As the season is ending, we are also saying goodbye to the beautiful game and legends of the game. There are two FC Barcelona legends and Inter Miami players retiring at the end of the season.
Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba played together with Lionel Messi, destroying European giants and showcasing their potential in Europe.
Messi’s departure from FC Barcelona in August 2021 was a drastic change for everyone. In 2023, Messi joined Inter Miami with Busquets and Alba, and from there they brought Inter Miami the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 Supporters’ Shield.
This will be a sad day for both Inter Miami and FC Barcelona supporters.
Major League Soccer will lose a legend this season. Darlington Nagbe will retire after the 2025 season. He started his MLS career in 2011, playing for Portland Timbers, and will end his career at Columbus Crew. No one expected him to become the legend he is now.
He has won four MLS Cups with four different clubs: a Leagues Cup with Columbus Crew in 2024, a U.S. Open Cup with Atlanta United FC, two Champion Cups with two different teams, Columbus Crew and Atlanta United FC and most importantly, a Gold Cup with the U.S. men’s national team.
This is an outstanding achievement for Nagbe, leaving a name in MLS. He will be missed.
