On Sep. 5, the Toronto Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 7-1 at Yankee Stadium during Baruch College Night.
The first inning set the mood for the rest of the game, with the Blue Jays scoring three runs after getting two outs at the start of the inning.
The Blue Jays then scored another run in the second inning before the Yankees got their first and only point of the game, with a home run by their designated hitter, Giancarlo Stanton.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a home run for the Blue Jays at the top of the fifth and Alejandro Kirk scored a run for the team on an RBI in the top of the eighth. To close out the game, Guerrero Jr. scored an RBI, giving the Blue Jays their seventh and final run at the top of the ninth.
During the game, the Yankees kept their lineup consistent, but they relied on the bullpen for pitching, causing them to switch pitchers four times from Cam Schlittler, to Ryan Yarbrough, then to Mark Leiter Jr. and finally to Camilo Doval, but that wasn’t enough to keep the Blue Jays down. The Yankees finished off this series by beating the Blue Jays 3-1 on Sept. 6 and 4-3 on Sept. 7. The teams will face off again on Sept. 23 in another three-game series.
This was the second Baruch night of the semester according to the Office of Student Life website, with the first one taking place on Aug. 30. The Yankees won the first Baruch night against the Cardinals 6-3. Many Baruch students showed up to snag the Baruch branded Yankees hat.
“We usually go to all the things that are merch related,” said Baruch senior Kira Chen. “The CUNY pop-ups by CUNYbystudents, we went to all of those.”
According to the Baruch College Alumni website there is one more chance to secure Baruch Exclusive Yankees merchandise this semester. The last Baruch night is on Sept. 24, where the Yankees will face off against the Chicago White Sox.
Tickets can be purchased at the link on the Baruch Alumni website and the first 100 tickets purchased come with a New York Yankees Baruch hat.
