The 2025 Formula One season has been all McLaren and its two drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
The two teammates have been going back and forth all season long, from the very first race in Australia to the last race before the summer break in Hungary. Starting the season, they were expected to dominate, but no one could have expected Piastri to take the fight to Norris the way he did. Coming off the summer break and into the Dutch Grand Prix, the two teammates and the rest of the drivers went at it.
The front row was locked out by the two McLarens, with Piastri taking pole on Aug. 30, with Norris behind him and Max Verstappen in third. The front three alone were as good as any to set up a wild first turn, Turn 1, for the start of the Grand Prix.
To start the race, Piastri cut off Norris to keep the lead at Turn 1, but Verstappen, with his relentless driving style, was able to get past Norris but almost lost it and nearly ended his race. The rest of the race went on as normal until lap 9, where Norris retook the position from Verstappen and was now set up to go after his teammate, who was still in first.
On lap 23, chaos ensued asLewis Hamilton lost it while trying to keep the car on track and ran into the wall, ending his race and continuing his very lackluster
first season at Ferrari. After the safety car left, the race continued with Piastri getting a good jump off the restart and keeping his lead. Then in lap 53, disaster for Ferrari struck again as Charles Leclerc got hit by rookie Andrea “Kimi” Antonelli and crashed, ending the race for him, continuing the nightmare season for Ferrari.
After another safety car, the race got back underway with Piastri keeping his cool and staying in front.By lap 65, Norris’s car developed an engine problem which forced him to retire from the race.As the checkered flag waved, it was Piastri who came away with the win, with Verstappen coming in second and rookie Isack Hadjar coming in third to get his first everFormula One podium finish.
It was a wild race to kick off the final stretch of the 2025 season, and because of his DNF, did not finish, Norris now falls behind his teammate in the championship by 34 points. With only nine races left, this championship is going to go down to the finish line.
