As the trees start to bloom and the weather starts to heat up the sounds of baseballs hitting the back of a catcher’s mitt and smacking off the bat can also be heard as the MLB season kicks off. The 2024 MLB season was one for the ages as we saw a very competitive overall season. No team won 100 games for the first time since 2014 and the playoffs races went down to the last day. The fan-favorite Mets kept momentum strong and the Yankees ran through the American League to get to their first World Series since 2009, ultimately failing to the juggernaut Dodgers in five games.
A mega offseason in 2025 has set the scenes for one of the best baseball seasons we could ever see. The Dodgers, who were already a force, got better thanks to new trades. Adding former Cy Young winner Blake Snell and Japanese star Rōki Sasaki, it is clear that the Dodgers are looking to be the first team to win back-to-back World Series since 2000. The big fish of the offseason Juan Soto went across town to the Mets adding to a great line up, leaving the Yankees to have to rebuild. The Yankees obtained Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt, two great additions to help the reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge, and also added Max Fried and Devin Williams to an already great pitching staff.
This season is going to be a dog fight, and both the AL and National League could go either way. Although many expect the Dodgers to dominate the NL again this season, anything can happen on the turf.
Two NL East favorites battled it out Monday night on April 21 as the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies met for the first time this year in a three-game series where the Phillies could take control of the NL East with a series sweep. The Mets won the game 5-4, as Francisco Lindor hit it out of the park twice leading the Mets to a win. Tylor Megill started for the Mets coming in 2-2 with a 1.40 ERA. Megill went five innings giving up one hit and striking out 10 Phillies en route to his third win of the season. Aaron Nola started for the Phillies but got banged up early by a leadoff home run from Lindor and later Jesse Winker. The Phillies tried to storm back in the top of the ninth as they put up four runs but all-star closer Edwin Diaz who has struggled this season. However, in this game Diaz was able to bear down and strike out Bryce Harper to give the Mets their 16th win of the season as they continue to climb the NL East standing.
