Don’t know what to get your family for the holidays? Get the best technology

Joel C. Bautista | The Ticker

Black Friday may be over, but for the late holiday-gift shoppers, this is for you. The Ticker has compiled a list of the best and worst gifts in technology.

To start off, there are certain you should abide by when gift shopping. One rule is very clear, buy only from trusted brands. Though there are many off-brand alternatives to well-known products, buying a cheaper product can often result in lower quality and disappointment.

Portable chargers for phones or tablets are popular and seem to be everywhere. While some chargers might seem appealing due to their price, they might charge your phone for 20 minutes and then die out. On the other hand, Anker is a great reliable company that offers wired phone chargers and portable chargers.

Headphones are always a great gift, especially when the gift receiver is someone who enjoys listening to music as they commute. Beats headphones are very recognizable to consumers but there are many cheaper alternatives. For around $30 you can gift someone 1More’s Piston Fit Bluetooth earbuds.

The holy grail of gifts is a mesh Wi-Fi product. For people who find themselves confined to one side of their homes because of their shoddy Wi-Fi, this product is the solution.

It solves this issue by placing several Wi-Fi stations in your home which leads to greater wireless coverage. To improve the gifting experience, you can even propose setting it up for them in their home.

Tablets are versatile and popular with kids, but there are still many unreliable tablets like the Amazon Fire tablet. The tablet costs $50 but is very slow and can lead to frustrating experiences.

If you want to gift something more reliable, go for an iPad. The newest iPad goes for $329 which might seem expensive, but is worth it.

Gift cards are a last resort when you do not know what to gift someone. The Ticker suggests not buying gift cards from stores that people do not go to often.

Amazon gift cards propose many options for the user and are highly suggested. A prepaid Visa card can give a gift with limitless options, as the card acts like a debit card. These options are all better than cash, stay away from a thoughtless gift.

Please do not gift someone a printer. If you truly want to ruin someone’s holiday, gift them the Epson Expression XP-640 printer. Not only does this printer not have an option for black and white printing, it is a pain to set up.
Paper jams are the least of your worries when you have to print out a paper due the next day and it’s low on cyan, which means no printing.

College is expensive but gifting should not be, make wise decisions and you will be surrounded by joyful family and friends.
