The first NFL Monday night football game has arrived between the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers and the New York Jets. The 49ers won 32 to 19. The game had implications of the Superbowl match.
Before the game started Christian McCaffrey, the star running back for the 49ers, was ruled out because he has dealt with a right calf injury all week. He was the 2023 AP offensive player of the year. Tonight was Jordan Mason’s first career start.
The 49ers dominated without Christian McCaffrey. Brock Purdy and the 49ers offense didn’t skip a beat in the absence of McCaffrey.
Mason finished with 28 rushes for 147 yards and a rushing touchdown. He also had a single reception for five yards. Mason had a great start to his NFL debut.
This was the first game for Aaron Rodgers since he tore his ACL in last year’s season opener which was also the first Monday night game of the season. He got injured four plays into the game.
The first touchdown of the Jets season was a Breece Hall three yard touchdown run. Hall had five carries for eight yards on that drive. By the end of the night Hall had 16 carries for 54 yards. Rodgers threw his first touchdown of the season which was a 36 yard touchdown pass to Allen Lazard who was his former teammate in Green Bay. Rodgers was taken out of the game in the fourth quarter after throwing 21 passes and completing 13 for 167 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Lazard got another touchdown from Tyrod Taylor, the backup quarterback.
Lazard had the best game of all of the Jets’ receivers. He finished the game with six receptions for 89 yards and two touchdowns.
Rodgers threw his first interception of the season while he threw the ball to Garnett Wilson it was deflected by Deommodore Lenoir and it was intercepted by Demetrius Flannigan which is his first interception of the season and the first interception of the game. The first touchdown of the 49ers season was a two yard rushing touchdown by Deebo Samuel Sr… The drive was 12 plays for 67 yards. Samuel finished the game with five receptions for 54 yards.
Brock Purdy had 231 yards and was a better game manager than Rodgers was and had more accurate passes. Purdy and the 49ers offense were on the field for 38 minutes and 40 seconds and the Jets were on the field for 21 minutes and 20 seconds.
The 49ers kicker Jake Moody had a great game, he went 6/6 on field goals and 2/2 on extra points. He has made 46, 51, 31, 53, 23 and 42 yard field goals.
The 49ers dominated from the first quarter to the final snap of the game. The Jets only had 266 yards in comparison to the 49ers had 401 yards. The offensive of the 49ers dominated; they had 24 first downs compared to the Jets, who had 14.
