The Baruch College Bearcats sports teams continued their action this week, with men’s soccer, women’s volleyball and women’s tennis wrapping up their regular seasons. Meanwhile, the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams kicked off their seasons this weekend.

Men’s soccer

The men’s soccer team continued its scorching hot month by defeating two CUNY Athletic Conference opponents in the York College Cardinals and the John Jay College Bloodhounds this week.

The Bearcats played the Cardinals on Oct. 19, winning 8-1 in a dominant performance.

Jemali Zarnadze and Daniel Fomenko led the way in the Bearcats win, scoring three goals apiece in the first half alone. Kosi Mbadiwe and Arman Celebi each tacked on a goal in the second half to seal the deal.

The Bearcats continued the excellent play against the Bloodhounds on Oct. 22, winning the matchup 3-1. Zyde Nawabi and Nicholas Bilotti each scored a goal in the first half, while Bilotti added another one in the second.

On Oct. 29, the men will face the Bloodhounds in a rematch in the semifinal round of the CUNYAC tournament.

Women’s tennis The women’s tennis team suffered its toughest stretch of the season this week, losing all three games it played, including its first and only CUNYAC loss thus far.

The team’s week kicked off on Oct. 18 in a stunning blowout loss to the Hunter College Hawks, 7-2.

The Bearcats won one doubles match and one singles match in the loss. Regina Kelley and Erica Sheludenko won the first doubles match 8-2, while Ava Deguzman swept the first singles match in two sets, 6-0 each.

The team saw a closer matchup on Oct. 20 versus the Pratt Institute Cannoneers but ultimately suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 loss.

The combination of Kelley and Sheludenko saw success once again in the second doubles match, the Bearcats’ only doubles win. Deguzman, Sheludenko and Kelley each won their singles matchups, but it was unfortunately not enough to defeat the Cannoneers.

The women concluded their week on Oct. 23 in a matchup against the Stockton University Ospreys but lost 6-3.

Deguzman and Esther Benjamin led the Bearcats to success for the team’s only doubles win, while Deguzman and Sheludenko won their singles matches.

The Bearcats look to regain momentum ahead of the CUNYAC tournament, with their first matchup against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs on Oct. 25.
