After two consecutive cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival made its comeback this year in Indio, California. The festival did not disappoint, with headliners Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd taking the main stage.

Other featured artists also included Lil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, Disclosure, 21 Savage, Stromae, Giveon, Ari Lennox and Doja Cat. The two weekends were packed with surprising fashion moments, high energy performances and a dust storm that didn’t stop thousands of fans from enjoying the diverse music sets.

Billie Eilish, who became a success after her critically acclaimed album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where do We Go,” took the prime slot as the festival’s youngest headliner. Her set showcased a similar setlist to her recent world tour, but she was also joined on stage by a few fan favorites including her brother Finneas for a performance of “I Love You” and “Your Power.”

Others included Khalid with a performance of their hit collaboration “Lovely” and artist Damon Albarn who joined Eilish for a rendition of “Growing Older” and Gorillaz hit “Feel Good Inc.”

Eilish then ended her set with “Bad Guy,” followed by an emotional performance of her hit “Happier than Ever.” The audience loved her set, with familiar faces like Justin Bieber, Bretman Rock and Timothée Chalamet jamming along in the crowd.

Megan Thee Stallion also achieved her first ever career performance at Coachella, featuring her hits “WAP” and “Body.” Stallion also debuted her new song, “Plan B,” which samples “Freek’n You” by Jodeci.

Her new track appears to take an aim at an ex and the singer prefaced her performance saying it was “very motherf—ing personal” and dedicated it “to whom it may the f— concern,” Pitchfork reported.

Second headliner Harry Styles also took the stage both weekends with a set including his hit songs “As it Was,” “Watermelon Sugar” and “Adore You.” For the second weekend, Styles surprised the audience when he invited Lizzo on stage for some unforgettable duets. Wearing matching pink looks with feathered coat tops, they covered Gloria Gaynor’s 1978 hit “I Will Survive” and One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful.”

Belgian artist Stromae also made a triumphant comeback, delivering a one-of-a-kind, interactive display of his performance art on the Outdoor Stage. He presented highlights from his newest album Multitude and threw it back with an electric rendition of his song “Alors on Danse,” making a mention of the TikTok trend that re-popularized his hit at the start of the pandemic.

The Weeknd closed out the festival with a hit-filled, tag-team set with Swedish House Mafia. Presented as “The Weeknd x Swedish House Mafia,” the set was split in half with each performing a set of their respective hits.

Swedish House Mafia took the stage first, followed by The Weeknd who sang his global hits including “Blinding Lights,” “Starboy,” “Save Your Tears,” “I Can’t Feel My Face” and more. A mega-mix of his features came soon after with verses from his high profile collabs with Kanye West, Drake, Future and Ty Dolla $ign featuring songs like “Hurricane,” “Crew Love,” “Low Life” and “Or Nah.”

Aside from the musical performances, Coachella isn’t complete without highlighting notable fashion moments. The trends present in the desert these past weekends are sure to carry onto this upcoming summer.

Many festival goers including A-List socialite Paris Hilton channeled their inner goddess with outfits made of light fabric and flowy material. The cowboy theme also seemed to take center stage with many attendees rocking cowboy hats and boots, pairing them with full crochet getups.

Neon was in full effect, with pops of bright pink, orange and yellow from head to toe, and matching sets were also a popular choice.

However, many social media fans, particularly on TikTok, noted that while many influencers embraced riskier looks, heavy Euphoria inspired makeup, striking neon outfits and intense sparkly getups, various A-List celebrities like Hailey Bieber, Kendall and Kylie Jenner took a more minimalist approach to the festival. They were rocking jeans, simple black boots and plain or graphic tees.

Ultimately, filled with striking fashion moments and unforgettable performances, though action packed and arguably hectic, Coachella 2022 was an incredible success.
