In an update following the end of winter sports, the CUNY Athletic Conference revealed that the Baruch College Bearcats lead the 202122 CUNYAC Commissioner’s Cup with 93 points over rival Hunter College Hawks, with 66 points.

The Cup awards the best athletic program from eight senior CUNY colleges and is determined via a points system that rewards the three highest regular-season finishers and conference tournament finalists.

At the end of the regular season, first place is awarded 10 points, second place five points and third place three points.

In title matches, the winning college receives 10 points and the runner-up five points. Three points are awarded to third place in championship meets with more than five participating schools.

Hunter leads the conference with 13 Commissioner’s Cups after winning the 2019-20 Cup. Baruch has the second most with eight Cups.

Baruch earned maximum points in men’s swimming and women’s tennis after winning both titles.

The Bearcats earned 15 points each from men’s basketball and men’s soccer. Both teams had similar campaigns, finishing second in the regular season to Lehman College Lightning, but prevailing in the title game in overtime.

Men’s cross country’s second-place finish in the conference championship and women’s volleyball third-place finish in the regular season earned the school five points each.

A pair of runner-up finishes in women’s swimming earned the school 10 points.

A third place regular season finish in women’s basketball netted Baruch three points.

After the men’s volleyball regular season ended last week, Hunter will receive 10 more points as the first-place finisher. Baruch will receive five points for finishing second and City College of New York Beavers will receive three points for finishing third.

More points will be awarded within the men’s volleyball tournament which takes place from April 5-8. The final will be held at the Baruch College ARC Arena.

Points from spring sports are currently underway; softball, baseball and men’s tennis were not included in the current count.

Hunter College is second in the standings with 66 points, followed by Lehman College with 63 points. Both teams earned points in women’s indoor track and field, a sport that Baruch doesn’t participate in.

Brooklyn College is fourth with 46 points after women’s volleyball and women’s basketball earned maximum points by winning the regular-season and postseason title.

John Jay College is fifth with 39 points after women’s soccer earned maximum points for sweeping the regular season and title match.

City College is sixth with 26 points, 10 of those points were for winning the men’s indoor track and field title.

York College, with three points after a third-place finish in men’s basketball, and Medgar Evers College, with zero points, round out the cup standings.
