CUNYAC men’s basketball All-Stars announced

The CUNY Athletic Conference announced its 2022 men’s All-Star selections featuring Adnan Bajrami, Emil Purisic and Michael Richards from the Baruch College Bearcats.
Bajrami, a senior guard and forward, was named to the first team while Purisic, a sophomore forward, was named to the second team. Richards, a senior guard, earned the Burt Beagle CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award.
Bajrami averaged 15.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.3 steals per game en route to his first team nomination. Purisic averaged 13.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists, while Richards averaged 8.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Together they led the men’s team to a 20-7 record on the season: placing second in the CUNYAC.
They defeated Lehman College 75-69 to win the CUNYAC men’s basketball championship behind a stellar performance from Purisic, who scored 23 points and 14 rebounds on 90% shooting from the field. He was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
Purisic’s championship game marked his season highs in both points and rebounds. His season high in assists was five. On the defensive end, his highs were two blocks and three steals.
Bajrami’s season highs included 39 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, five steals and two blocks.
In addition to being an all-star, he was named to the CUNYAC Championship All-Tournament Team and was named to the Metropolitan Basketball Association Division II/III Weekly Honorable Mention for the week of Feb. 1.
Two of his most notable games came versus Medgar Evers College, where he scored 30 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals, and his game versus Lehman on Feb. 12, where he scored 39 points, six rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Richards posted season highs of 23 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, five steals and one block.
On top of the sportsmanship award, Richards was named the CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month for December 2021, his second nomination after winning in February 2020.
Some notable games for Richards include his play versus John Jay College, where he scored 23 points, three steals, two assists and one rebound, and his showing versus City College, where he scored 19 points, four rebounds, four steals, two rebounds and a block.
