Earlier this semester, members of the Undergraduate Student Government helped students navigate the campus through our established tiki hut located on the 2nd floor of the Newman Vertical Campus under the supervision of the Office of Student Life.

We provided expert knowledge about technology, accessibility and general knowledge regarding Baruch. Students were also able to enjoy free merchandise.

It was great to see students excited and thrilled to be navigating our campus. Our campus has been drastically renovated, such as the Clivner=Field Plaza and the new lobby at our historical Lawrence and Eris Field building, which is colloquially known as the 17 Lex building.

Additionally, USG members will be across campus to increase engagement and support for students under the pseudonym “USG Street Team.” We are excited to play a huge part in helping students navigate their return to campus.

Resources and dissemination of information regarding resources are an important objective for our tenure this year. We are actively working to bridge the distance between students and faculty.

Moreover, we have a few events lined up for September.

On Sept. 28 at 1 p.m., under the direction of our VP of Legislative Affairs Karina Chiqui and her committee will be hosting our annual “National Voter Registration Day.” Chiqui has been working on creating an expansive programming schedule for her event.

It includes: NYC Votes Director of Partnerships and Outreach and Baruch College Alumni Omar Sanchez, former City Council Member Jimmy Vacca and youth organizers Jessica Rosario and Andres Aguirre.

I had the honor of hosting this event during my last academic year under my tenure as VP of legislative affairs, and I can assure you that it is an event that you do not want to miss out on. Those who are in attendance will be automatically entered in a raffle to win a NYC Votes tote bag.

In October you can expect a lot more interactive and social events. Our main event will be our annual “Homecoming.” VP of Campus Affairs Erika Cumbe is working with her committee to host an amazing homecoming for our students this year!

Many other events and initiatives are in the works, so to stay up-to-date with everything and make sure to follow USG on Instagram @USGBaruch.

Our goal is for everyone to learn, enjoy and discover everything that Baruch and our external world outside of Baruch has to offer.
