As per tradition, Baruch College kicked off the Spring Semester with a Club Fair, which was held on Jan. 31 in the main gym. The Club Fair served as a reflection of Baruch’s spirit, diversity and versatility as clubs of various professions, religions and cultures gathered together to welcome incoming and transfer students wanting to get involved in student life.
Club members distributed candies, balloons and merchandise to attract students signing up for each respective clubs’ email list. Some cultural clubs even gave out sweets from their native countries to appeal to students.
The WBMB Radio of Baruch College Radio served as the evening’s DJs,keeping students upbeat throughout the afternoon.
While Baruch’s well-established clubs such as The Accounting Society, ALPFA, UCLA, CEO and Hillel were celebrating their history, the Pakistani Student Association, Toastmaster’s International, and Advertising Design Society relaunched themselves and began a new journey.
Heenakshi Malhotra, a Graphic Communications major and an e-board member of ADS, said she couldn’t contain her excitement. “ADS is going to be the first design society here. We aim to teach students how to use Adobe Photoshop and other design skills as it is essential to know the basics,” she said.
The Sexual Assault and Harassment Committee was also present at the fair, accompanied by Baruch’s Health Center. The members of the committee said that their core goal this year is, “To create assault awareness throughout the school and inform students of the resources they have available here at Baruch.”
The enthusiasm of club members is only representative of the many exciting events that are ahead for Baruch’s students this upcoming year.
