Baruch College men’s basketball team was defeated 63-75 by Brooklyn College Bulldogs on Jan. 30.The first five minutes of the game started off close before the Bearcats took a 10-point lead with a series of 3-pointers. But the Bulldogs halted the streak, bringing the Bearcats back to a two-point lead.
The Bulldogs’ short advance was cut by a series of fouls that lifted the Bearcats back up to a nine-point lead. The game floated around this lead before the first half ended 38-26, with the Bearcats still leading. But the Bulldogs would not let that lead sit in the second half.
Toward the middle of the second half, the Bulldogs closed the game with a streak the Bearcats were unable to halt, putting the score at an even 53-53. It was here that the game turned around in the Bulldogs’ favor.
Unfortunately for the Bearcats, their shooting dropped dramatically from both the field and the three-point line, giving the Bulldogs the advantage they needed to win. Throughout the second half, the Bulldogs maintained the lead with the Bearcats unable to catch up.
With three minutes left on the clock, the Bulldogs hauled in more points with an excellent offense, ending the game at 63-75. Bulldogs D’aze Hunter and Joe Charles each scored 21 points, the most in the game, while Bearcat Leyi Adebayo followed with 20. Adebayo also added the most rebounds with 10.
Despite the Bearcats’ loss, their standing in the CUNY Athletic Conference has not changed. With a 55% win percentage, the Bearcats still have a chance to move up the ladder.
The Bearcats played the Hunter College Hawks on Feb. 5 in Battle of Lex.
