Grammy’s review: red carpet’s best and worst dressed
February 21, 2023
Music’s biggest night of the year has come and gone with some forgettable wins and remarkable losses at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. However, while music may be the very essence of the Grammy Awards, the real event happens right before, outside on the red carpet. From Taylor Swift to Harry Styles, the fashion scene witnessed some of its greatest hits and worst tragedies.
Lizzo took to the carpet, looking “good as hell” in a stunning orange Dolce & Gabbana gown. The dress involved a corset lined with crystals and matching straps. The garment included a long skirt and matching fingerless gloves. To top it off, the Record of the Year winner adorned the look with a gorgeous deep orange cape lined with flowers to match the one in her hair.
One of the bolder looks of the night was Shania Twain’s daring pant suit ensemble. A white canvas splattered with black polka dots and completely covered in rhinestones. She even had a matching abnormally large top hat. Yet the most alarming part of her look was certainly the debut of her bright red hair. If one happens to not know who Twain is, one might confuse her with another beloved redhead, Ronald McDonald.
Taylor Swift stunned in a custom Roberto Cavalli two piece midnight blue gown. While Swift herself looked ravishing, her dress was quite the snooze fest. The long sleeved cropped top and long skirt is nothing fans haven’t seen her in before. The jeweled embellishments helped amp up the look a bit, but unfortunately the dress remains forgettable.
The biggest winner of the night, Harry Styles, was easily the talk of the carpet with his sparkly rainbow Egonlab jumpsuit. Showcasing his tattoos, the jumpsuit stopped midway on his torso with the straps covering a portion of his chest on either side. The outfit, although extremely bold, seemed to present itself in a more childlike manner.
This type of look doesn’t surprise fans of Styles. For the 2021 Grammy’s, the singer put together a yellow suit jacket, pink vest and brown pant ensemble, topping it off with a bright purple boa. His looks seem to be more reminiscent of a child who’s playing dress up, but he always manages to pull it off.
“Clothes are there to have fun with and experiment with and play with.” Styles said in an interview with Vogue.
Pharell, although seemingly quiet these days, showed up to the carpet in his loudest outfit yet. A bright red studded Ernest W. Baker suit, topped with a gorgeous brown fur coat and circular studded sunglasses. Pharell has plenty of reasons to be “happy,” starting with his ability to rock a red carpet.
One of the best dressed of the night was Cardi B in a gorgeous Gaurav Gupta royal blue body-con gown. With an effortlessly beautiful train and a unique abstract top that served as both the upper half of the gown and a hair piece, Cardi looked marvelous. Although the gown itself was simple, the originality in the construction is what really pulled the look together and has ultimately put Cardi at the top of the “best dressed” list.
