Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda released the single “Almost Like Praying,” to raise funds for hurricane relief in Puerto Rico. The song has the same tune as  “María” from West Side Story, but it has different lyrics and includes vocals from Latino artists such as Marc Antony, Gloria Estefan, Luis Fonsi and Jennifer Lopez.

Cardi B continues to rule the Billboard Hot 100. Her hit single “Bodak Yellow” sits at the No. 1 spot for the third week in a row, making it the longest reigning rap song by a solo female artist.  J Balvin and Willy William’s “Mi Gente” remix, featuring Beyoncé, climbs to the third position. Imagine Dragons gained its fourth top 10 single with “Thunder” at No. 7. Demi Lovato’s “Sorry Not Sorry” peaks at No. 8, making it Lovato’s highest charting single.

Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to the 1982 film, stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford and Jared Leto. It leads the box office with $32.8 million, which is still an analytical disappointment, creating doubts whether the film would recoup its $150 million. The Mountain Between Us, starring Kate Winslet and Idris Elba, follows up with $10.1 million and Stephen King’s It closes the pedestal with $10 million.

The stage adaptation of George Orwell’s magnum opus 1984 closes on Broadway following its short run. The show, starring Olivia Wilde and Reed Birney, was the first production of the 2017-18 season, and was the first political Broadway show following the election of President Donald Trump. The show has played 38 previews and 125 regular performances.

An Australian production of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical In the Heights has been cancelled after accusations of “white washing.” The Brisbane production was shut down after a promotional poster revealed that all of the actors were white. The 2008 musical focuses on a community of Hispanic immigrants living in Washington Heights and remains one of the most prominent representations of Latin-American culture.

Lincoln Center has announced that it is going to scrap their $500 million plan to renovate the David Geffen Hall in order to find a cheaper way to improve the building. The David Geffen Hall, home of the New York Philharmonic, was formerly known as the Avery Fisher Hall and was renamed after Geffen, a philanthropist, who donated $100 million for its renovation.

BET premiered its new late-night show “The Rundown with Robin Thede.” The show, which will touch upon politics and pop culture, is hosted by comedian and actress Robin Thede, making her the first ever African-American woman to host a late-night show.
