The Baruch College Bearcats men’s tennis team continued its string of dominant play and extended  their win streak to six after beating the Brooklyn College Bulldogs, the SUNY Oneonta College Red Dragons, the St. Joseph’s College of Long Island Golden Eagles and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

The CUNY Athletic Conference No. 1 seed Bearcats started off the stretch on April 13 against the No. 2 seed Bulldogs at the Roosevelt Tennis Courts in Brooklyn, NY, winning the match 8-1.

The men dominated the doubles round with Christopher Tham and Abhinav Srivastava winning the No. 1 match 8-2, Nicholas Santiago and Georg Arteaga winning the No. 2 match 8-1 and Philip Dwan and Piers Seidman winning the No. 3 match 8-1.

The singles matches were also decisive with Tham, Srivastava and Santiago winning the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 matchups 6-0 in two sets each, respectively.

Arteaga proceeded with a 6-2 win in each of his two sets for the No. 4 matchup, while Hudson Kaylie won his two sets 6-4 and 6-3, respectively, in the No. 5 matchup.

The Bulldogs’ only win came during the No. 6 matchup, where Dwan lost in three sets following a heartbreaking 9-11 loss in the tiebreaking set.

The men kept rolling on April 18 in Oneonta against the Red Dragons, with Tham and Srivastava, Bauer and Arteaga and Santiago and Seidman sweeping the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches 8-1, 8-2 and 8-6, respectively.

The No. 1, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches went to the Bearcats while the No. 2 and 4 matches went to the Red Dragons.

Tham won the No. 1 match in a dominant two sets, 6-1 each. Bauer won 6-1 and 6-3, respectively, in his two sets for the No. 3 match. Santiago won 6-1 and 6-2, respectively, in the No. 4 matchup.

The No. 6 matchup was close, but Kaylie pulled off the win in three sets, losing the first set 3-6 but winning the second 7-6 and the tiebreaker 11-9.

The men kept their foot on the gas for their next two games, kicking off back-to-back sweeps with a 9-0 win in Patchogue against the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles were uncompetitive from the jump, with Tham and Srivastava, Bauer and Arteaga and Santiago and Seidman dominating the No. 1, 2 and 3 doubles matches, respectively, with each pair sweeping their matches 8-0.

Baruch’s command of the court did not change during the singles matches, with Tham, Srivastava, Santiago and Arteaga sweeping the No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 singles matches, respectively, 6-0 in two sets each.

In the No. 5 singles matchup, Dwan won 6-1 in each of his two sets, while in the No. 6 matchup, Nicolas Altman won 6-0 and 6-1 in two sets.

On Bearcats Appreciation Day, Baruch’s last home game for the season, the men swept the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in a slightly more competitive match.

Srivastava and Tham won the No. 1 doubles match 8-2, while Bauer and Arteaga won a close No. 2 match 8-6. Santiago and Seidman clawed their way to an 8-7 win in the No. 3 matchup, thanks to a 7-3 win in the tiebreaker.

However, the singles matches were not as competitive. .

Tham won the No. 1 singles matchup in two sets, 6-0 and 6-1, respectively. Srivastava won the No. 2 matchup in two sets as well, 6-1 and 6-3, respectively, while Bauer won the No. 3 matchup in two sets, 6-3 each.

Santiago took the No. 4 singles matchup in two sets as well, winning 6-4 and 6-1, respectively. Arteaga won the No. 5 matchup 7-5 and 6-2, respectively, while Kaylie won the No. 6 matchup 6-3 and 6-0, respectively.

The Bearcats will end their season against Ramapo College on April 29, their last matchup before the CUNYAC tournament on May 1.
