CUNY announced on March 25, the receipt of $700,000 from Robin Hood to support the integration of career milestones into academic degree maps.
The degree-career maps initiative is committed to providing undergraduates with a better understanding of professional milestones and opportunities for paid internships, apprenticeships and full-time jobs.
“As our students navigate their way through college, many as the first in their families to do so, it is essential to connect their college studies to career goals,” CUNY Chancellor Félix Matos Rodríguez said on the importance of the degree-career maps initiative.
Robin Hood is New York City’s largest poverty-fighting organization. The association is committed to supporting impactful organizations across the city to fight poverty among populations.
The association provides funding to establish long-term routes out of poverty. Since 1998, Robin Hood invested $3 billion to fight poverty in NYC. In 2023, the association invested $118 million in NYC’s most innovative poverty fighting solutions.
Robin Hood is committed to childcare, education, health, housing, hunger and jobs issues. A large network of grantees of over 300 people, is deployed by the association toward its efforts to fight poverty and provide help to the communities.
CUNY’s mission statement states that it is committed to providing a “public first-rate education to all students, notwithstanding means or backgrounds.” The public university system is committed to diversity and inclusion of all students and advocates for an education within the reach of anyone’s financial situation.
CUNY aims to make a great education accessible and affordable. This suggests the consideration of students’ economic situation and background and an understanding of possible difficulties and poverty.
By teaming with CUNY and providing funds, the association enables better inclusion and diversity in the educational field and provides a chance for students to have equal educational opportunities.
“CUNY is one of New York City’s shining stars and a true driver of opportunity. It has long served as a springboard into the middle class, putting low-income and first-generation college students on pathways to upward mobility and transforming their lives,” Richard Buery Jr., CEO of Robin Hood said.
The alignment of CUNY’s and Robin Hood’s objectives explains the association’s continued investment in CUNY since 1988. The investment in the degree-career maps initiative promises great outcomes.
It will make it easier for 25,000 students to find internships, employment and more competitive pay.
CUNY’s career mapping initiative supported by Robin Hood funding, promises the success of students with bright colors while contributing to decrease poverty and improve students’ lives.
