This is a developing story.
Three CUNY campuses received a “credible threat,” students learned via CUNY Alert messages sent on Feb. 22. Baruch College was not impacted.
“All Baruch College classes and business units have been operating normally,” Baruch said in a statement shared with The Ticker. “As usual, we remain alert and continue to have the safety of our entire campus community as a priority.”
Queens College and York College were both believed to have been targeted.
“Due to a credible threat to Queens College, classes will go remote for the rest of the day as of 2:45 PM on Thursday, 2/22/24,” the alert said. “All Queens College campus buildings will be closed today until further notice. If you are on campus, please immediately exit calmly through the nearest safe exit.”
Queens College students learned of the threat via an alert from Citizen, an app that sends users real-time safety alerts.
Queens College student-run publication The Knight News broke the story through their social media platforms, providing the student body with real-time updates on the situation.
The Knight News reported that NYPD informed them that Queens College was one of three CUNY campuses to receive the threat simultaneously, but would not share any further details.
